Despite starting the day off at the wrong school, when one googles Emerson it takes you to Wurt, we had quite a bit of adventuring to do. Once we left Wurt we found Spaulding Elementary. I'm not sure why we are on such a school kick at the moment but they are fun. After some equipment malfunctions were sorted out we perused the school. Tony knows someone named Adam Hall who does Urban Exploring as well and he agreed to "tour guide" us thru Emerson. Lots of cool photo and video opportunities in that building. We ran into another group for the first time ever on our way into Emerson, then again on our way out.
Sam and I took the hint of 67 degree and sunny weather to hit the links.
Inevitably Sam will find a way to win...
The bottleneck at hole 5 was worse than usual.
Summertree was packed today. Everyone had the same idea. It was slow going at first but after the first 9 these two young kids, who were walking in front of us, left and it was wide open after that.
I always let Sam drive so I have time to mess with my non-golf related gadgets in-between shots.
Droning was successful until the memory card filled up.
FINAL SCORE: 98 to 94. Sam wins.
Hate you sam.
Tony and I went back to film the roof, some interior & exterior of the school. This may be the best one yet. The sun being out was a welcomed change, as was having actual light to be able to see what we were filming.

Surprisingly we are going back again on February 11, 2017 to find the original pool. Police are involved.

I was in Lew Wallace when Sawyer and I exchanged these text messages. I adore him. Below is the video of the day we went to buy him some ink.
Today was a pretty amazing day. We found the famed pool where my dad maintains that he swam naked in school. I was disappointed when we found the other pool and he said that it wasn't the one he swam in. A friend of my parents, and Facebook friend of mine, shared with us a floor plan of the building. Talk about a relief. Now we know where we are going.
One of the most important things we learned is that a lamp with two 100 W bulbs is better than any flashlights we can buy.
We were about to go into the auditorium and we heard a police car honking outside. Tony looked to the right and was like "we're clear" then looked left and said "there are cops surrounding your car!". At this point we had to decide whether to try and sneak out and avoid them or just fess up and take whatever punishment they saw fit. I shouted to them from the second story window so we announced ourselves rather than them having to come find us. See the interaction on the February 11, 2017 episode of Chronologically Joel.
Despite the fact that we had to interact with the police it was one of the best days we've had out and about adventuring. They even let us go back in to get this shot in the auditorium.
Look for the video on #ChronologicallyJoel and #LOSTtoTIME only on Comeuppence Network.
Everybody dies, but not everybody lives... and goes to jail. Though to be fair technically speaking everybody lives, but the point is go out and do stuff. Risk is itself the reward.
Go over to the LOST to TIME page and check out all the photos and video from our second day at Lew Wallace High School.
Day 2 felt more productive than Day 1, if only for the fact that we got a jumpstart on the day by being there at 9am. We spent most of the day there apart from when we left to eat. Funny story... we took a break in a classroom and ate some snacks my mom had packed for us (shut up). I thought it would be a good time to do a time lapse video, so I set my phone on the base of the chalkboard and started it up. Then we left. I don't mean we left the classroom and realized my gaffe. I mean we LEFT THE BUILDING AND MY PHONE.
See how it all played out in the video.
Day 3 coming soon.
Some days I just feel like curling up into the fetal position. Today I did.
One of the holy grails of Urban Exploration has been Lew Wallace High School in Gary, IN. After dipping our toes in the UrbanEx (we are part of it so we can use the cool slang terms now) video pool, I drove past this school and was immediately disappointed as it looked completely boarded up.
I put it out of my mind as a pipe dream, even considered calling the City of Gary to ask permission to film in there. When I couldn't figure out who to get ahold of I sort of gave up on the idea. And to be fair asking for forgiveness is easier. Either way, I saw no plausible option to go in and film a video then post it (illegally?).
Then on January 28th, 2017 I made plans to go play some NES Classic with my cousin. He had to go get the warranty activated on the tint on his car, so I tagged along. On the way back we drove past the school. On a whim he got out to check the door and low and behold, one was open.
The next 3 hours consisted of us roaming the building and documenting the decay. The place was SO BIG that we had to make a multi-day affair out of it.
All that being said, I finished editing Day 1.
Days 2, 3 & 4 are coming soon. Subscribe on YouTube or check back here for more LOSTtoTIME videos.
